LF NRG 12

KF - 12/18/2012

Good: Responsive and powerful, light bar pressure, quick inflate/deflate

Bad: **&&*$)&*^...Bitch to relaunch

LF NRG 14m

max - 8/20/2012

This is my take on LF NRG 14m. I've had few sessions with it and here are my personal thoughts.

First, the good. It flies in less than perfect conditions. By less than perfect i mean just under 10 knots. I pair it with a bigger TT (148x54) board or surf board (5'7") and can cruise all day. It even goes up wind. Its pretty stable and does not back stall, and even when it tries to back stall, pushing bar out gets it back 99.9% of the time. Launching and landing is nothing special. When there is enough wind its not a problem. Turning and/or looping is exactly as i expected. All in all its a pretty good 14m kite.

Second, not so good: unless you like no bar pressure at all you will need to adjust bar/lines and shorten steering lines. My other kite is Cabrinha, so i like medium to heavy bar pressure. I set mine to the third knot at the bar side and the second knot at the kite side (light wind). Basically, as short as possible. Center line pigtails at the kite side seems a bit short to me. Loop comes close to pulley and its kinda small. Another inch would make it a lot easier. Not a big fan of the CPR bar. As many pointed out, swivel does not work at all. De-power it tricky to use for me, and, couple of times i had strange issue when pulley on the central line got stuck and the kite kinda tilted to one side. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with me getting used to a new control system.

Now, the bad: strut clips are included, but they are not installed by default. I was wondering why, and, i think, i know why. I'm certain that they can cause canopy tears. Which brings me to the major issue for me: the oversized cap on the max flow valve has got to go! Clearly, LF thought about it and there is a "perfect patch" on the canopy that should (in theory) prevent cap from tearing the canopy, but it does not work very well. I roll my kites and store them in sock-like bags (completely deflated), but still, the oversized cap somehow punched through the "perfect patch". So, be warned! Also, canopy fabric feels thinner compared to one used on Cabrinha. Definitely be extra careful when dragging your kite on sand and pay extra attention to the max flow valve cap. Also, if you want to use strut clips make sure to remove them before deflating and packing the kite.

Built Strong

I flew this kite at a demo and slammed the S%$# out of this kite and it was completely fine. Really good construction.

Nice Feel

The kite is nice and stable with good low end power. Not fast turning, but I don't need fast turning. I like to power up and ride, this kite does exactly that. Would recommend it to anyone.
